The international port community is taking up the challenge to help shape a truly sustainable supply chain for the future. It is within this context that on 22 and 23 March 2018 the World Ports Sustainability Program (WPSP) was launched in the Port of Antwerp.
This international maritime charter is the first ever for the worldwide maritime community to commit itself to contribute to achieving the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.
The program is based on the 17 Sustainable Development Goals drawn up by the United Nations. Visit the newly launched wpsp-website: www.sustainableworldports.org for more information. With WPSP, global ports aim to enhance and coordinate future sustainability efforts around five essential themes: future-proof infrastructure, climate and energy, societal integration of ports, safety and security as well as governance and ethics. The program is initiated by the International Association of Ports and Harbors (IAPH) and developed in cooperation with regional and international port-related organizations.
